This day long retreat for men and women will be an opportunity to explore, meet, and experience the stories and koans from the ground-breaking new book, The Hidden Lamp: Stories from Twenty-Five Centuries of Awakened Women. The co-editor of the book, Soto Zen priest and writer Zenshin Florence Caplow, will lead the retreat.
Through silence, mindful dialogue, and discussion, we will turn to the ancient and modern stories in the book as mirrors for our own lives and practice.
If you are curious or new to koans, this will be a gentle introduction to them. If you have wondered about the history and teachings of women in Zen and Buddhism, this will be a chance to learn more. Byakuren Judith Ragir will join us to share the reflection she wrote for the book, and copies of the book will be for sale.
