Jukai Ceremony

Part of the Jukai ceremony is the presentation of a rakusu (a small hand-sewn Buddha robe), an individual Buddhist name and Zen lineage papers. Everyone is welcome to attend and encouraged to offer their support to those who are entering into this commitment.

The Ten Grave Precepts: The activity of Buddha’s mind

First and third Mondays, January 3 and 17, February 7 and 21, March 7 and 21, April 4 and 18, May 16, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. • with Byakuren Judith Ragir and the Practice Leaders • This class is open to anyone who is interested in studying the precepts of behavior. It is a prerequisite for those practitioners who will be taking Jukai or lay ordination in the fall of 2011. Each class will focus on one of the 10 grave precepts.

Lay Ordination – A study of the ritual and its components

Six Mondays, Sept. 20, Oct. 4, 8, Nov. 1, 15, 29, 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Jukai: A study of the ritual and its components with Byakuren Judith Ragir and Ken Ford. This class is a prerequisite for those students who will be taking lay ordination in the fall of 2011. This class is also open to anyone interested in exploring Zen rituals and the teachings that are enveloped within the ceremony.
