Understanding our karma is a vital practice for liberation. Exploring our karma is bearing witness to our historical lives. But what is it, and how does it relate to our bodhisattva vows?

This class will explore what is Karma and in what ways our karma shapes who we are and how we practice. We will study early Buddhist teachings, such as the Links of Causation, Zen texts and koans, such as the infamous “Wild Fox Koan,” and non-Buddhist texts that help us touch into and bear witness to the causes and conditions that form and inform our real human lives.

We will explore how our karma structures our relationships (with ourselves, with our community, and with all beings), and how our relationships structure our karma. Through our study of karma, participants will investigate the connections between our karma and social justice and how our vows and karma working together can give birth to liberation from suffering and oppression for all beings.
