Awakening of Faith is an early Buddhist treatise attributed to Aśvaghosha, who lived in India from 80-150 CE.  The work is translated from the Chinese, which is the only surviving copy of the text. This work has been influential in the Mahayana Yogacara school and studied by generations of practitioners since it was written over the centuries.

The text is a short treatise, but its importance is out of all proportion to its length, since it provides a comprehensive summary of the essentials of Mahayana Buddhism.  It discusses the question of how a person can transcend their finite state and participate in the life of the infinite while still remaining in the midst of the phenomenal order and concludes with a discussion of the particular practices and techniques that will aid the believer in the awakening and growth of their faith.” Yoshito Hakeda

This class is for those who appreciate taking an analytical approach to the teachings as a way to enter into the profound wisdom our tradition.
