Exploring the Life of the Buddha: April 11 – May 7

Exploring the Life of the Buddha
with Myo On Susan Hagler
Tuesdays, April 11 – May 7, 7 – 8:30 pm
In this four week class, we will look at Siddhartha Gautama, the historical Buddha’s life both before and after his great awakening. Using the book Path of Compassion by Thich Nhat Hanh we will study the Buddha’s childhood, his path to awakening, and his life of teaching. Thich Nhat Hanh’s book draws from the earliest Buddhist sutras and weaves together a detailed narrative of the Buddha’s life with less of the magic and myth found in later texts. The resulting exploration of the triumphs and difficulties of the Buddha’s life offers a humanizing version of this ancient story.
Please get your own copy of Path of Compassion by Thich Nhat Hanh before the first class.
After this class series there will be another in depth exploration of the Buddha’s life using Thich Nhat Hanh’s more exhaustive biography of the Buddha: Old Path, White Clouds.
Link information for Zoom participants will be emailed before the Class.

“We know in our hearts that there is a different way to be, a different way to live. Our generosity with one another is indeed resistance to the greed and fear that oppresses us. We provide for one another out of love for each other and love for ourselves. When we give, we acknowledge that all beings want to be happy.”
