Chanting Workshop – Nov. 11

Chanting Workshop
Sat, Nov 11, 9 am – Noon
with Myo-O Marilyn Habermas-Scher
In-person only

To support and bookend zazen, we ring the bell.  When we chant, we are the bell.  We are the bell that is awakening and is awakened by its very nature.  This is really very simple, and we were made for it.

We invite you to spend this Saturday morning together entering into the world of sound by: awakening the body, awakening the breath, and attuning the voice to both hearing and sensing the sound that we will make together.  When we chant, the sound is both produced by us, and produces us in relationship with the text.  The vowels and consonants of the text awaken our instruments and nurture, encourage and enlarge our practice.

Please come and help each other enjoy this beauty.  Joy and laughter are welcome.

No prior chanting or bell ringing experience is necessary.

She was a professional dancer in her youth and is trained in a number of body-mind practices, including Yoga, Qi Gong and Body Mind Centering™.  She is the originator of VoiceWork™, a somatically based voice training, which she offers in private practice, and has taught at several colleges and universities. “We know in our hearts that there is a different way to be, a different way to live. Our generosity with one another is indeed resistance to the greed and fear that oppresses us. We provide for one another out of love for each other and love for ourselves. When we give, we acknowledge that all beings want to be happy.”
