Clouds In Water Zen Center

A vibrant urban community in the Soto Zen Buddhist tradition dedicated to awakening the heart of great wisdom and compassion. We welcome people of all backgrounds and faiths.

 

Beginning May 1, Clouds in Water will be offering an in-person Orientation and Intro to Meditation every Sunday from 8:30-8:50am CT in the Zendo. Masks required for Sunday program.

Jizo Ceremony for Parents of Children Who Have Died – May 21

In Japan, Jizo Bodhisattva is the “guardian of children who have died.”  Sometimes called a Water Baby Ceremony, this is a ceremony for a loss of a child. This is a modified version for our present-day culture of a traditional ceremony that has been around since the Edo Period of Japan.

Intro to Meditation & Zen Buddhism – May 21

This class offers an introduction to meditation and Zen Buddhism. We will cover how to meditate, how to set up a meditation space at home, basic Buddhist terms and teachings, and an overview of the Clouds in Water community. There will also be time for practice and conversation.

Sangha Council Practice/Listening Sessions – May 26

The board and the teacher-ryo would like to create more opportunities to build a stronger community. Therefore, for the next several months, we will hold sangha council practice meetings. Also known as talking circles, these meetings are an opportunity to share from the heart your hopes and concerns for Clouds, and for the board and teachers to listen deeply and answer questions that may arise.

Meeting Our Zen Mother Ancestors – June 8-29

We chant the names of our women Buddhist ancestors at sesshin and services, but how much do we know about them beyond their names? This class will look more closely into the lives and circumstances of some of these ancestors from India, China, Japan, and North America. We will also explore stories from The Hidden Lamp: Stories From Twenty-five Centuries of Awakened Women and discover how their teaching can inform our practice today.
