A vibrant urban community in the Soto Zen Buddhist tradition dedicated to awakening the heart of great wisdom and compassion. We welcome people of all backgrounds and faiths.

Lojong Slogans: Training in Compassion – Sept 27-Nov 1

The Lojong Slogans offer a wonderful way to practice beyond the meditation cushion with the every day situations we encounter. In this online class, we will cultivate compassion by training our minds as taught through the seven points and 59 slogans of the 12th century Tibetan text, The Root Text of the Seven Points of Training the Mind, or Lojong.

Practicing with the Four Noble Truths – Sept 28-Oct 25

The Buddha’s Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Noble Path are the foundation for our path to spiritual maturity. Looking closely, we can see that they are directives for action. They are the fundamental “tasks” for our journey. We’ll explore this teaching as a way of awakening relevant to every aspect of our lives.

Inspired by the Buddhist Pali tradition and concept Kalyāṇa-mittatā “admirable friendships”, Teen Practice will explore the intersections of American Buddhist origins and communities, art, and the environment. We will enter into each theme guided by the curriculum (developed by Flying Fish Murphy and Kikan Howard) on interconnectedness, impermanence, and the Four Divine Abodes.
